Working on this project, I believe, really helped me mature and some what prepare for the future. I feel that, all types of health care professional, really do make a huge difference in the world. By doing my project in a hospital, I was able to communicate with not only staff members, but the patients themselves. I feel as if I can now communicate well, be understanding, and put what I learn into actual actions. Typically, when it comes to learning something new, I wasn't very good at just that. It was difficult for me to learn something, and to put it into good use. Working with my mentor, gave me the opportunity to break free from that bad habbit. I was able to put whatever I learned into use. Even if it was as simple as listening to a heart beat through a stethescope. Working in a hospital, really opened my eyes, in more than just one way.
Personally, this Capstone Project helped me grow so much. I feel that I'm more aware, considerate, mature, and understanding. My whole life, I wanted to work in a hospital. I wanted to work with children. I believe that the children are what we need to take great care of, because they are the future. Knowing that my mentor worked with children, I just knew I had to take this opportunity. Not many people can just stroll in a hospital and listening to some random persons heart beat. Socially, I think I am more helpful. I have always been a social person, but I feel that this project made me social in a more emotinal level. I know how to talk to people, but to be able to talk to someone and help them, is different. I have most definitely gained some knowwledge in doing this project. What many Americans don't know, how important being healthy is. And if you're not healthy, to find a way to get healthy. You are the only person you have, and you need to take care of yourself. Doing this project, really made me want to be healthy. It made me want to be smart, and not do things that will mess with my health. An inhalor may be a small object, but that small object can save lives. Overall, I feel that this project, not only helped me grow, but saved me.
Throughout this project, the biggest challenge was actually doing it. My mentor and I had completely different agendas. When she was free, I was either at school or at work. The days what I was able to work at times, would be her days off. Her agenda changed weekly. She worked 3 days a week, but the 3 days would change all the time. So, it was very difficult at one point. We managed to work it out very well, though. She would tell me the days she worked, and I would try and work something out with my job to either get the day off or to start late that day. Other challenges were simply becoming comfortable around the hospital. Hospital can at times be tempting and a bit terrifying. So being there, for more than 20 hours, really helped me get use to the place and also to understand that a hospital isn't a bad place. That was more of a personal challenge. The Capstone Project really challenged me as a person. I had to get out of my comfort zone, go out there, and do something. But not just any something, I had to go out there and do something that actually affects peoples daily lives. It was a challenge, but a great one.

Senior Project Hours
Hours throughout the week: 12 hours
Total hours: 13 hours
The week of March 31- April 6
During this week, my mentor and I did 3 hours in her work, UCSF, and we also did 1 hour meetings at her house. We did this routine 3 times this week. Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. This week was my first time going to UCSF. My mentor and her staff showed me around, and I got the opporunity to finally shadow her. I learned the basics of what a Respiratory Therapists does. To be completely honest, I was so scared. My whole life, I have been lead to believe that all doctors are mean. To my surprise, they're not! Mira and her entire staff were so kind. I think it's because they work with all kinds of ages, Mira, specifically works with children. I wasn't able to stay in the rooms for long when Mira was with patients, due to the facts that there's the whole "doctor-patient policy" thing, but for the time I was able to check a few things out. I noticed her checking the patients breathing, listening to their heart beat and their lungs.
Hours throughout the week: 8 hours
Total hours: 21 hours
April 13
This week, I only shadowed my mentor once. We did a full 7 hours at UCSF, and 1 hour meeting at her house. At the begining of the day, my mentor did the basics. Check the patients, write summaries about each patient. My mentor let me check a patients heart beat (with the patients permission, of course). My mentor began explaining how to properly use an inhalor. She also shared a video with me that her whole staff had been passing around. It was actually interesting. The video had to do with a patient not knowing how to properly use her inhalor. It was suppose to be a humorous video, but I didn't see much humor in it. After watching the video, my mentor explained me that the reason to why the video was humorour was because a lot of Americans really don't know how to properly use an inhalor. She then taught me how to properly use one. To my advantage, after enjoying a short lunch break, my mentor had a patient, who was hispanic. She is 12 years old. I had noticed from my previous visits that this patient had been coming to the hospital a lot. The patients parents only spoke Spanish, and since I am a Spanish speaker myself, I was able to translate. They explained to me that they're daughter had been waking up in the middle of the nights, coughing dramatically. They also explain that she is not as active as she once was, and she was begining to tire very quickly. After explaing this to my mentor, she automatically began testing the patient. Doing breathing tests, looking into family medical hisotories, and asking a few questions, like how frequent these symptoms were, when they occured, ect. We told the patient and her family, that we shall give her a call and set up a next appointment when results were in.

April 21
This week, I shadowed my mentor once again. I was only able to work with her for 4 hours today, since I worked today. We met up at 7am and began our day. The same patient from my previous visit, was coming in today. Which for some reason, got me a little excited. I felt really helpful being able to translate and actually being apart of something. I have been shadowing my mentor for so long, it felt pretty good being able to be in there helping out. A few check-ups went by, and then finally the patient I knew came in. Her parents, pleased to see me, greeted me and my mentor, and we all began talking. My mentor had came to the conclusion that the patient might have Asthma. She did many tests on the patients, and many came back as positive. So, my mentor provided an inhalor for the patient. Neither the patient or parents had ever used an inhalor. My mentor then told me to provide the proper use of an inhalor, since she had showed me how to use one correctly before. I explained how to hold the inhalor, how long to hold your breathing, and when it is necessary to use the inhalor. After showing the patient and her parents, they all thanked me and my mentor. It felt great being able to be apart of their happiness. I really enjoyed the fact that I helped them all out. My mentor told me she was very much proud of how well I explained everything, and how patient I was when the patient didn't understand and I had to explain more. It was probably the highlight of working with my mentor for me, the fact that I made a difference in someone elses life.
Hours throughout the week: 2 hours

April 30
Today, my mentor and I met at her house and had a huge discussion of all the hours we did together. Working with my mentor, really opened my eyes to a whole new world. People really don't pay attention to the little things, like simply using an inhalor correctly. Being a Respiratory Therapist, is a very difficult, tiring, and hard working job. But then again, it can be such a great, fun, and interesting job. My mentor told me she was very proud of all the time and effort I put into this. Meeting with her, was very difficult due to the fact that she works only 3 days a week, and it's never assigned days. And since I work too, it was very difficult to make time. But, we both managed to pull through, and overall, we can both say it was a great experience.

Project Hours
Hours throughout the week: 1 hour.
Total hours: 1 hour
01/08/13
Today, my mentor and I simply discussed what can be done for the physical project. She explained to me the different age groups, infants, children, adults, and seniors, that she works with. She explained what a Respiratory Therapist mainly did, which basically was a therapist that helps people breath correctly. She also explained the different types of diseases, such as Asthama. We discussed the days and hours I would be shawdowing her.
She is in Disneyland but will return the week of spring break. My physical project will be started till then.

"How do the Democratic and Republican positions on the "fiscal cliff" differ?
In searching for the best answer to this question, I used the following to help guide me:
1. Democrats AND Republicans ON the fiscal cliff
This option didn't really help me much. It showed me more than 150,000,000 results, and most of the front page was unreliable sources.
2. Democrats view ON fiscal cliff
This helped me a little. It showed me a lot less results than my first option and it gave me great details on the views of the Democrats. It, of course, didn't show me any on the Republicans. So, in the end, it didn't help me much.
3. Republican view ON fiscal cliff
This, help me a little as well. It only showed me the views on the Republican side, so once again it didn't provide much help.
4. Democrats OR Republicans views - fiscal cliff
This option provided a lot of great options. It gave me a variety of great websites. Such as NBC politics, and CNN. By far, the best option.
5. Fiscal cliff ~ Republicans VS Democrats
This option showed me great results as well! This was definitely the best option. Showed me great news, such as Boston, and Chicago Tribute.

Prop. 34
Proposition 34 purpose is to end the Death Penalty Initiative. This means, there will no longer be a sentence to death, but instead there will be an “imprisonment for life with no possible parole”. Making first-degree murder punishable only by life in prison. This meaning, the 725 offenders who are already on Death Row, would be sentence to life imprisonment with no possible parole. (KQED).
What Proposition 34 offers positively is about $100 millions saved in trials. These savings would then be given to law enforcement to help with investigations on homicides and sex crimes as well. Over time, that saving can grow to be at least $130 million dollars. With positive though, comes negative. Many law enforcements believe that this gives criminals the right to feel they can escape justice. Giving them the idea that, if they commit a murder, for example, they’ll only face imprisonment.

In my opinion, I feel that if you commit a crime, you have to deal with the consequence and punishments that come along with that crime. Taking away the death penalty, is basically saying, “Hey you killed someone and it’s okay”. The government can’t possibly let criminals get the easy way out, and that exactly what would happen if Prop. 34 passed. Punishment is what criminals like that deserve. They deserve to feel the pain they made one or two or even ten other people feel. The families of these people that have suffered. For these reasons, I would vote NO on Prop. 34. You commit a crime, you pay for it. In the same way the people you hurt paid for it.

Canterbury Tales: The Queen
In a castle high above the clouds, lived the Queen. The Queen was a beautiful, young women who had the most gorgeous hair that was ever seen. She wore extremely elegant dressed that followed her as she walked. A typical day in the castle, would be waking up, having her maids dress her, and feed her. She had no worries other than to say yes or no to answer questions anyone may have asked. If she felt she didn’t want to give an answer, she would send them to her husband, the King. The Queen and the King has two stunningly beautiful children. A son and a daughter, the Prince and the Princess. Becoming the Queen, was anything but a hard thing to do. She met the King one day, and before anyone knew, they decided to get married. The Queen believes that every decision that is made, must somehow help the townspeople. The townspeople are what make the kingdom. As for her future plans, she and her King wait for the day where they can finally pass the kingdom down to the Price and Princess and rest. Both, together as a happy couple.

The Reeve.
In my opinion, the Reeve was an old man who was known to have many outbursts of anger. He was a tall, thin man who had a beard that was shaved roughly close to his skin. His hair was cut in a fastidious and particular was. He dressed very clean and fit. He went about things in a very smart, and organized way. He always knew when to plant his seeds and grains. He was in charge of all animals, stores, and cattle pens. He was known to be very smart about his business, and had a master he would go to daily. He was a witty, wise man.
